Here are a few online and electronic resources to help educate your community about clean water and the environment.

1. Clear Choices Clean Water

Besides offering stellar information on how to make clean choices in everyday decisions, like lawn care, pet care, and native plants for around your home, the site goes a bit further. Users get the opportunity to make a pledge to make a clean choice and their name appears on the website. You can see who in your community is making positive environmental decisions.

Idea: Run a campaign in your town to see how many pledges your community can total up!

2. Hoosiers Care Environmental Impact Calculator

This interactive online calculator helps you find various ways to save money and the environment. The calculator shows real-world results for very simple changes, illustrating how much household water, energy, and money can be saved through these options.

I chose just 5 items to change and it calculated a yearly savings of more than $1,000!

Idea: Feature the calculator on your website and social media and ask “What 5 easy changes can you make and how much $$ would it save you a year?”

3. Indiana Water Environment Association

The association offers support and resources to help educate Hoosiers about the importance of the water environment.

One example from their Resources Center is World Water Monitoring Day. This program provides an opportunity to educate users about core water quality parameters. An easy-to-use test kit allows users to sample local water bodies for temperature, pH, turbidity, and dissolved oxygen and share results with others around the world. IWEA purchases test kits for distribution to Indiana schools or other organizations.

There are many more resources on their website that you should check out here [link http://www.indianawea.org/resources/outreach.asp].

4. Green Genie

Rated the #1 Green App by TechCrunch, this is a great tool to have on your smartphone. It is a “complete guide to a sustainable lifestyle” right in your pocket.

The app boasts: “Developed in collaboration with a LEED Accredited Professional and a professional Sustainability Consultant, the Genie is more than just green tips--it's a massive collection of green projects and resources. It's like getting a master's degree in sustainability.”

5. National Environmental Education Week

National Environmental Education Week (EE Week) is the nation's largest celebration of environmental education. It is held each year the week before Earth Day and inspires environmental learning and stewardship among K-12 students. The 2014 theme, Greening STEM: Engineering a Sustainable World, explored the application of engineering to sustainable solutions for a healthier planet and healthier people. EE Week has been held in the month of April each year since 2005.

On their website you can find resources, educator toolkits and more.
