Employee Spotlight:  Brad Robertson

Posted By Seth Morin on November 22, 2017

Robertson, Brad.jpgWessler is proud to announce Brad Robertson as our Employee of the Month! Brad serves as Field Services Manager, with more than 20 years in the industry.

He was nominated by his peers for his relentless willingness to go above and beyond, no matter the project, situation or role he is in.

Below are some questions we asked so that we all can get to know him better:

What are your roles and responsibilities at Wessler?

Most of my time is spent overseeing day-to-day sanitary sewer rehabilitation projects. I also oversee our sub-consultants in the field, review Daily Field Reports, review and agree on quantities, and address homeowner concerns when they arise.

I oversee our crews in the performance of smoke testing, manhole inspections, wet weather inspections, sump pump inspections, and other field related services. I also spend time marketing our field services, working with our Business Development team and assisting project managers on proposals.

What does the Wessler Way mean to you?

Providing our client with the highest quality work, and continue to build a lasting and trusting relationship with our clients. We keep our word and go above and beyond to deliver the best possible project.

What are some of the most important lessons you have learned?

Here are 4 that come to mind.

  • Your kids aren’t you! My wife and I brought our boys into the world and are their caregivers until they care for themselves. We can teach them, love them, and support them, but we can’t change them. Kids are unique individuals who must live their own lives…..so let them!
  • Cherish those that you love; you never know if you will see them again.
  • Learn from your mistakes.
  • I thank God every day for the difficult people in my life, they have shown me exactly who I do not want to be.

Outside of work, what are your favorite hobbies?

  • I am a Goodwill Junkie! I love to shop at different Goodwills across Central Indiana. I love to hunt for antique sporting equipment and jerseys.
  • I love to spend time at High School Football and Basketball games; My Alma mater Columbus East High School just advanced to the State Championship game taking place on Friday, November 24th at Lucas Oil Stadium! Guess where I will be...Go East!
  • I love reading and learning more in depth about my Catholic faith. I am in the process of reading a book called The Lamb’s Supper written by Scott Hahn about The Mass as Heaven on Earth.

You are out there in the field pretty much every day. Any funny stories to tell?

There is not a day that goes by that I don’t see something comical; just ask Joe Bartos! Here are a couple .

  • I was working a job and the construction crew was working on a manhole near the street. The crew turned their back for a split second and a man with long hair and wearing a trench coat  tried to crawl into the manhole opening saying “ need to get back home.” Thank goodness he was stopped and was not hurt!
  • I was working another job and I observed a man trying to scale the brick wall of a nearby building, I yelled at him to get down and he said “I’m Spiderman!”

IMG_2018.jpgBest memory of 2017?

A trip to Iroquois Park in Louisville, Kentucky two weeks before Halloween for the annual Jack-o-Lantern Spectacular. The ½ mile trail consisted of 5,000+ carved and lit jack-o-lanterns at night. It was truly one of the most amazing things I have ever seen!

Pacer game or Colts game?

Neither! Center Ice at the United Center in Chicago for a Chicago Blackhawks hockey game - that has always been my dream sporting event. Go Hawks!!!

IMG_4426.jpgWhat are you most thankful for this Thanksgiving?

I’m thankful for good health, good friends, freedom of religion, my parents, my wife, my two sons, and the men and women who fought - and continue to fight - for this great country!
