Employee Spotlight: Megan Carr, P.E.

Posted By Seth Morin on March 20, 2018

Carr, Megan.jpgWessler is proud to announce Megan Carr, P.E., as our Employee of the Month! Megan joined Wessler in 2016 and serves as a Project Manager, with experience in collection systems, stormwater and wastewater.

We asked Megan some questions so we all can get to know her better, including her love for Ohio State, camping, bike riding and her own cake decorating business!

What are your roles and responsibilities at Wessler?

As a Project Manager at Wessler I work on the planning, design, permitting and construction management of collections systems, stormwater and wastewater projects. I have only been a part of the Wessler Family for less than two years, but I have more than 14 years of industry experience in the environmental, agricultural, municipal and regulatory sectors, which provides me the ability to meet the client's needs on all aspects of their projects.

What does the Wessler Way mean to you?

It means developing relationships with our clients to create a partnership that goes beyond the projects we are working on, but it also extends to them being a part of the Wessler Engineering Family.

What are some of your favorite things to do outside of work?

I enjoy doing anything outside - biking, playing with the kids, hiking. I also enjoy working on home improvement projects - we recently finished our basement ourselves making a great family hang out space.

How did your love for camping and bike riding come about? Any fun and/or memorable stories?

As a family we enjoy casual bike rides and use our bikes to get around when we are camping and exploring a new area. The last few years I have also gotten into road bike riding, mainly because I disliked running and was looking for another outdoor workout option. I love road biking  now and I enjoy riding with the local ladies group ride and with my husband, if he doesn’t mind me slowing him down! I completed by first 100 mile bike ride last year and looking forward to doing a few more this year. We bought a small pull behind camper last year because we wanted to have an easy opportunity for some family time exploring the state and national parks around us. We have several camping trips planned again this year including Michigan’s upper peninsula and tailgating at the state chess team tournament  that my son is playing in.

Can you tell us a little about your cake decorating business?

MeganCustomCakes-1.jpgYes, I have a part-time cake business that started by making my kids’ birthday cakes, then a few neighbor’s cakes and then I officially opened up “Custom Cakes by Megan” in 2010 and started to do weddings in 2011. I am self-taught and enjoy the decorating details more than the baking! The engineering side of my brain loves the details and structural planning required for some of the unique and larger wedding cakes. My tag line is “Cakes Exquisitely Engineered for Every Event!”.

Brutus_Buckeye_in_2017.jpgWhat are some fun family traditions?

We have made time with family a priority, and when growing up we had regularly planned vacations with my extended family. We are now continuing that on to our kids traveling and making a priority to visit their cousins -even if they live in Vermont and Louisiana!

Rumor has it you are an Ohio State fan?

I’m a Buckeye by birth and have been a lifelong fan! We have only been to a few games, but wish we could go to more!
