Employee Spotlight: Steve Bailey

Wessler is proud to announce Steve Bailey as the subject of this month's Employee Spotlight! Steve joined Wessler in the early months of 2019 and currently serves as a resident project representative out of our Indianapolis office.

We asked Steve some questions so we all can get to know him a little better. Congratulations, Steve!

What are your roles and responsibilities at Wessler?

Representing Wessler in a professional manner as a resident project representative and field services technician. I oversee our sub-consultants in the field, review daily field reports and address homeowner concerns when they arise.

I also supervise our crews during smoke testing, manhole and sump pump inspections, wet weather inspections and other field-related services.

What does the Wessler Way mean to you?

When we tell the client we are going to do something, we come together and get it done. Sometimes an unforeseen issue comes up that requires a lot of extra work, or late design changes, but we band together as a team and make sure the right product gets to the client regardless of any extra effort it takes.

What are some of your favorite things to do outside of work?

Almost anything outside and pretty much whatever my grandkids want me to do. We have five of them who range from two to nine years old!

Tell us about a secret skill you have that most people probably don’t know about.

I have an almost fool-proof cure for the hiccups. It's nothing crazy; just a unique breathing technique!

What are some other positions you have held prior to joining Wessler?

Working for the Indiana Department of Transportation (INDOT) for almost 23 years, I had the opportunity to be involved in many different areas, from painting lines on the road to doing traffic analysis for signal timings, surveying, construction inspection, and project design. The one job that provided the most interesting experiences was, by far, plowing snow (ironically it's the one job I will miss the least).

What are a couple of the most memorable things you have done?

Vacationing in the Bahamas was possibly the most memorable vacation we've been on because of the amazing sights, sunsets, and just experiencing an entirely different culture. We even went snorkeling and went to the Atlantis casino, which was really cool! I also, for some unknown reason, went cliff diving at Dale Hollow (pictured). Still not sure why, but glad I did it!

You purchased a new home recently. How are you liking it so far?

This is kind of cheesy, but, ironically, I am liking the same thing about this house that I liked about the previous one: it is where my wife lives!
