Ask anyone in “The Region” how they would describe Northwest Indiana and you’re very likely to hear words like hard working, resilient and industrious. In that way, Wessler’s expansion to Northwest Indiana through the opening of our Hobart office represents more than just business growth. It is an alignment of values. The Wessler Way of being thankful, humble, kind, devoted and excellent is consistent with the character of the Calumet Region.

It is not lost on this water resource engineering team that Northwest Indiana’s next-door neighbor is Lake Michigan, our main source of drinking water and a resource for industry and recreation. The abundance of landscape and ecological diversity including dune, swale and river valleys make The Region not just one of the most ecologically diverse places in the world, but also a fun place to help clients keep their water safe, managed and future-proof.

In addition to the physical landscape, the Wessler family has a deep appreciation for the people of Northwest Indiana, and not just the famous, moonwalking ones (read: Michael Jackson AND Frank Borman). The area is growing in its population and we know that while more people mean more opportunities, an increasing population also creates challenges. At Wessler, these challenges excite us. We’re looking forward to helping our new and current clients solve big and small problems and not just for now, but for the future.

Northwest Indiana is a special place and we are proud to now be considered local. And I am personally proud to have called The Region my home as a lifelong resident of Gary. I have had the tremendous pleasure of serving the community of Northwest Indiana in a number of ways during my career, including founding and directing a neighborhood nonprofit, Central District Organizing Project (CDOP) and leading the Gary Parks Department and Youth Services Bureau. I remain active as the Environmental and Climate Justice Committee chair of the Gary branch of the NAACP and serve on the boards of Project REBUILD and Brown Faces Green Spaces. I am proud to call Gary home, living here with my husband and three children where we spend the bulk of our time scouring The Region for the best burgers, tacos and perch.

Do you have a story about Northwest Indiana? Let’s discuss it over coffee (or juice or tea). Feel free to call, text or email me or stop by Wessler’s Hobart office and I’ll give you a tour.
